Dave Holloway

Senior Partner / Cheif Instructor

 

The current Vice-President and chief Instructor of Grove City Karate LTD. And Senior Partner in Survival Operating Systems (SOS), Holloway is a former Sergeant in the U.S. Army Special Forces and a Viet Nam veteran. Holloway Graduated from the Columbus Ohio Police Academy and the Ohio Peace Officers Training Academy. He attends the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center and holds certificates in Executive Protection, Basic and Entry Level Protection officer, and Home Land Security/Counter Terrorism. Holloway also attended the WMD/Terrorism Awareness class held thru Texas A&M University and Tactical Response Inc. Hazardous Device (WMD) Recognition/Emergency Action Course. He is a graduate of Crucible Security, Kelly McCann’s IPMC/Sudden Violence course and International Training Institute (ITI) Duane Dieter CQD Level#1 DDS. And Weapons Familiarity Course. He is a graduate and holds competency certificates in Mike Janich’s Martial Blade Concepts level’s 1 thru 4 and has attended the Counter Blade Concepts, Martial Stick Craft and Introduction to Point shooting. In 2004 he attended Legion Protective Services Dignitary/Executive Protection 5 day course and Tactical Response Inc. Tactical Pistol 2 day course. Thru Surviving Iraq Inc. he received a certificate in Protection Specialist: Operation Iraq and Civilian Contractor: Operation Iraq. He has completed the Ohio CCW 12 hour course and has attended seminars given by Lt. Col Dave Grossman - Bullet Proof Mind, Det. J.J Bittenbinder - Tough Target, Caliber Press – Street Survival Seminar, Yelena Pawela – Soviet SWAT Tactics, Personal Defense Group – Fear Management Techniques, Weapons Experts Inc. – Edge Weapons and Franklin County Sheriff’s – Bomb Identification Class. He holds current certification in Basic First Aid and Adult/Child/Infant CPR.

A 27-year practitioner of Martial arts, and an instructor for the past 20 years, Holloway holds Black Belts in Shito-Ryu and Shoto-Kan Karate, Yamani-Ryu Kobudo (weapons) and Kashamashinto Iaido (Japanese Sword). He has a teaching certificate for Yang Style Tai-Chi and Daylan (Wild Goose) Qigong. He also has Kyu rank in Tomiki-Ryu Aikido and Matsubayshi-Ryu Karate. As a student he practices Tenshin Kuro Kempo Jujutsu and Filipino Stick. As a member of the U.S. (Olympic) Karate team he won a Bronze Medal in Mexico City (1987) and over 60 medals and trophies in Karate competition. Holloway was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation from Sensei Fumio Demura and a Certificate of Excellence from Sensei Kiyoshi Yamazaki. He has trained with many outstanding Martial Arts Instructors including Hideharu Igaki, Kiyoshi Nishime, Kiyoshi Yamazaki, and Fumio Demura. In 1999 the Ohio House of Representative recognized Holloway as “Outstanding coach”.

Bryan McKean

Lead Instructor

Currently a Lead Instructor Survial Operating Systems, Bryan began studying under Dave Holloway at the age of 16 earning the rank of Nidan (2nd-degree black belt), Fugitanahi-Ha Shito-Ryu Karate. In Feburary of 1999, he concurrently began studying Kwanmukan Karate, earning the rank of Nidan (2nd-degree black belt). In addition to karate, Bryan has studied Kashima Shito-Ryu Iaido, Yamani -Ryu Kobudo, Tai-Chi, Tai-Chi sword and Hung Gar Gung Fu. Bryan also holds the rank of Shodan in Yamanaka Koju Te-Ju-Jitsu. In addition to the traditional Martial Arts, Bryan has also trained in the Martial Blade Concepts system with Michael Janich, and is currently an Certified Instructor (one of only six). He has also served as an assistant instructor to Mr. Janich on numerous occasions and is one of the most accomplished MBC practitioners in the nation.
